EMS Crashes - A Costly and Deadly Problem
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers are a critical piece of every community's public safety infrastructure. They also rely on the cooperation and awareness of other drivers as they navigate to and from emergencies to provide urgent medical assistance. Surprisingly, these other drivers are one of the most dangerous threats EMS workers face in their daily work. Consider some of the shocking figures:
- 4,500 EMS crashes occur every year
- Nearly half of EMS fatalities are attributed to collisions
- A single collision involving an ambulance can exceed $1 million in expenses
