Using Digital Alerts to Provide Advance Warning to Motorists of Lane Closures

Lane closures are a critical tool for roadway and traffic management. They're an important tool for construction crews, emergency responders, transportation and traffic incident management agencies. Lane closures help professionals in all of these disciplines protect workers and responders, control the flow of traffic, and prevent motorist collisions and incidents around unexpected problems on the road.

Your agency depends on being able to create, manage, and communicate lane closures at a moment’s notice. Safety Cloud makes it easy to alert motorists of lane closures through vehicle infotainment systems and navigation applications.

Safety Cloud supports three types of lane closures:

• Manual: Use the Safety Cloud Dashboard to set the start and end points for closed lanes, along with other required details, to define where drivers should be notified about active lane closures. Activate and deactivate the closures in real-time or schedule in the future.

• Automated: Automated closures are created and managed in a similar fashion to Manual closures. The most notable difference is the activation and deactivation of Automated closures happens automatically when a device in the field or back-office system is triggered to send a message to Safety Cloud.
  
  
• Feeds: Safety Cloud ingests lane closure details directly from roadway information feeds operated by Departments of Transportation and other authorized agencies. This enables digital alerting protection around work zones and closures that are managed by 3rd party systems.
